The Creature Crucibles were four supplements(PC1 Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, PC2 Top Ballista, PC3 Sea People and PC4 Night Howlers) published by TSR between 1989 and 1992 that added PC races, magic items and spells, and situations to Mystara.
I have not been able to find any reviews on these books but Wayne's Books has a more complete description for them.

I have all but the first. They vary very much in tone from each other. The races are all playable and offer new vistas but playbalance and seriousness aren't always present.
ReplyDeleteEach presents its own campaign setting that vary wildly in style as well. The undersea one has the most comprehensive setting. Top balista offers a goofy but playable aerial campaign with gnomish flying aces and others engaging in dogfights.
Playing with all the races in the series would probably be an unmanageable mess but one or two with the standard mix could be a lot of not too serious fun.
Tall Tales of the Wee Folk has Pooka, but, like Kender, they annoy most GMs. I'd love to play one, though.
ReplyDeleteI do have plans for an underwater campaign and plan on using The Sea People for it.
